The Coal Shed Art Studios was first founded in 1999 by artist Tim Rose and it was located in a historic building originally used to store coal on the Mare Island Naval Shipyard. This past summer, we re-located to a bigger building, just a few blocks down from the old one, but still inside of the island. We are now 18 amazing and talented artists using the space to create and share with the community during our special events.
Our grand re-opening had the honor of our mayor Bob Sampayan come to cut the ribbon, along with representatives from Lennar Mare Island and the Vallejo Chamber of Commerce. It was a beautiful event with art, live music and hors d’oeuvres on the waterfront.
There were so many people that I barely had time to walk around. I was busy sharing my art and story with our guests. A special thanks to my dear friend and collaborator Toby Speed from Bang Holler Art who came all the way from Palm Springs to meet me in person and help me prepare for the show. If you ever need someone who understands art and has an amazing design concept, he’s your guy. I’m forever grateful to have Toby in my path. Also a special thanks to my friend Nathan who came to the event, took all these pictures you see here (I completely forgot about taking photos!) and made sure I would have something to eat and drink. And thanks for the Sake, so yummy!
I’m so so happy to have a studio space among so many amazing artists and human beings in general, to be able to fulfill my dream, spread my art mission with others and keep on growing.
