The vision and inspiration behind my January scene is based on a few different things: The yellow structure on the background may seem weird at first glance, but can you guess what they are? Those are the bones in our ears. I also based this scene on one of the first sculptural pieces I created, “Flying Places”, which tell the story of a boy who was born with Cerebral Palsy and is flying into his future away from his wheelchair. It’s a mix of their personal story and the cover of the book by Dr. Seuss “Oh, the places you’ll go!” I believe that book to be very fitting for the month of January, when we tend to think about our plans for the future and re-visit our choices from our past.
It was also a challenging month for me to get the scene done: The weather was very cold at the studio which caused my clay to crack a lot. I got very busy catching up with other work , I was also just recovered from a surgery and we had a family crisis that took a lot of our attention, time and energy. It was all happening at once and it was frustrating at times, so I’m very proud that I finally got it done!

This will be a year long project very dear to my heart! My budget is very small right now, but I’m hoping I can create an entire calendar by the end of next year for 2021. If you enjoy and believe in what I’m doing, please consider helping by purchasing one of my products. When you invest in my work, I’m able to do bigger things, reach bigger audiences, create more awareness.
At the first of each mont, the calendar page of the month will be available for purchase as a poster print, a canvas print and other products.
