William’s smiles got me right away! He has this glow in all the pictures I saw of him. I decided to have him flexing his muscles as if signing “strong” with both arms. When I saw him wearing the Captain America t-shirt, I knew it was a great option to add it to the painting as well.

The Story of William – by his mom, Corey

My youngest William is my only deaf/hard of hearing child. He was born with moderate to severe sensorineural hearing loss bilaterally. We were completely new at this and still are but we are learning ASL. I want him to know he will always have a way to communicate with us. I continue to try and find every resource I can to help me learn about deaf culture and ASL. He knows over 300-400 signs. This days it’s harder to keep track. He will be 3 in September and hopefully will be attending our local Deaf school in the fall.
