Jessica never met a person who is deaf until her daughter Annie was born. This painting is based on a story that shows the experiences and lessons a hearing parent usually goes through when they first find out about their child’s diagnosis. I painted Annie with metallic tones and added the butterfly wings on her ears as you see in many of my portraits. She wears a cochlear implant on her left ear and a hearing aid on her right.
