Proud to Be Deaf is more than a print — it’s a declaration of identity, resilience, and community. Inspired by Isabella’s real-life journey, this artwork honors the strength it takes to reclaim your story, your language, and your pride after being made to feel invisible.
Growing up in a hearing household, Isabella was never encouraged to embrace her Deaf identity. Labeled as a “broken hearing person,” she navigated years of silence, isolation, and institutional discrimination. But through courage and advocacy, everything changed.
After fighting — and winning — a legal battle against ableism and abuse in school, Isabella found her first taste of true belonging. Joining the National Association of the Deaf, she discovered a vibrant, supportive community and began working to change laws for Deaf and Hard-of-Hearing people in Texas.
This print celebrates the moment Isabella reclaimed her identity. It speaks to all those who have been told to shrink themselves — and now choose to stand tall. Deaf, HoH, queer, hearing, or otherwise — this piece is for anyone learning to take pride in their culture, story, and voice.
