Someone extremely dear to me has been struggling with mental illness for a few years. Her hardest challenge right now, as she recovers from a painful psychotic break, is to stay focused on what’s best for her while in treatment. I offered the idea of creating a vision board that she can look at every day, serving as a reminder of all the healthy and positive things she loves to do and want s to achieve. I asked what image she would like to have first, and to my pleasant surprise, she asked for an image of the heart chakra. I could have just found the symbol, printed and sent it to her, but I felt it would be much more special if I painted one from scratch.

Anahata or heart chakra is the fourth primary chakra, according to Hindu Yogic, Shakta and Buddhist Tantric traditions. In Sanskrit, anahata means “unhurt, unstruck, and unbeaten”. Anahata is associated with balance, calmness, and serenity. So here is my painting, not only in honor of her healing process but also shared here to serve a purpose to all the ones who feel they need a stronger connection with their own heart’s desires. A great piece to add to your altar, vision board, or anywhere you may need to be reminded of its powerful message.
