Clara was born in Brazil, right when her mom completed exactly 24 weeks of pregnancy, weighting only 465g (just over 1lbs). Only a few years prior, she would have been considered too small to survive because there wasn’t any equipment able to help babies born with a weight bellow 500g. She was placed in the NICU for 7 months. During her stay, Clara had operations on her heart and on her eyes and suffered from many complications. As a result from being born premature, Clara was diagnosed with Periventricular Leukomalacia (PVL). She didn’t pass her hearing and screening and was diagnosed profoundly deaf. She began to wear bilateral hearing aids when she was 10 months old. Right from the beginning of Clara’s journey, Joice shared their story on Instagram and quickly gained over 63K fans who cheered and prayed for her every milestone.
Now Clara is 3 years old. She walks and has already overcome many challenges. She loves to “read” and to play musical instruments. She is a very happy, sweet little girl who goes to school and therapy sessions. Her parents wanted to name her Summer, but changed their minds because they thought it may be too hard for others to pronounce the word in Portuguese. As you might have guessed, Joice’s favorite flower is the sunflower.
Clara was born with the power and the light all around her. She has proven that anything is possible. Her story gives hope and inspiration to many other families whose babies are born premature.
